I find painting fish to be intriguing. In researching Chinese ink painting on rice paper I became enamoured with the emphasis on loose, simplistic strokes to render images with energy flow. I also am fascinated with the artistic nature of Chinese script and how it is related directly to painting. I understand that goldfish are considered lucky in Chinese culture as is a composition consisting of 9 fish, one being black. This painting took various layers before I was satisfied with the outcome and the addition of Chinese script along with the introduction of geometric shapes seemed called for.
